| Can anyone help? I am trying to create a simple template (which was a piece of cake in VL3) that will provide the text of the Collect, the three readings and the psalm - and NOTHING else. I do not want any rubrics etc. I use this material to produce a readings sheet for the congregation. Assistance very welcome

| There are many ways of doing this, but it took me about three minutes to do it this way, so I hope this helps... I opened the Template called Collect Readings and other propers. I said it was an undated service, because I knew I was going to save it as a new template. In the Detail View, I unticked the items I didn't want to see, including the rubrics, leaving just the Collect, First Reading, Psalm, Second Reading, and Gospel. Then I saved it as a new template; I gave it the name "Simple collect readings and other propers." Then I had a new template which I could open like this: Double-click on the new template - select a calendar date for which you are planning your service. Untick the box that says "This is an undated service." Press OK, and the template will open with your required readings. Assuming that works, you can then save that in the service planner, and use the service planner or VL Agent (even quicker) to open it for future dates. Does that help? Hi.
We've been doing this for ages (with both VL3 and VL4/VL Live) and it is actually very easy because you don't need to set up a separate template (as you did in VL3).
Once you have created a service, using whatever template you want, you have 5 "view" tabs at the bottom: Overview, Detail View, Summary View, Congregation View and OHP view. What we did was to customise the OHP view so that it only shows the collect and readings and then, using the service item properties menu, amended the OHP view so that these items have their full texts included. If you do this, you should find that for every service you create, the OHP view will give you the full texts as you need for the readings sheets.
I use the OHP view because we don't create OHPs in VL. If you use the OHP view for this purpose, you could use the Congregation view.
An extra twist to this is that I use my own stylesheets for these views, which are set so that the styles vlpsalmrefrain, vlpsalmprayer and vlversenumber are set to non-display. If you want the verse numbers in the readings, don't bother changing the latter. The same applies for the psalm refrain and prayer. We didn't want them on the readings sheets so it made sense to make them non-displayed.
The end result is that once a service has been created (with the correct readings), all I have to do is open the service and go to the OHP view. From there, it is just a very simple task of cutting and pasting into the DTP document we use to create the readings sheets.
