We will shortly be sending you an update which will re-arrange the Times and Seasons material making it easier to find than it currently is.
At the moment you will find some of your Times and Seasons material in the corresponding folder in the Create Service tab and other templates for other seasons can be found in the 'All Services' folder (for example Holy Communion Order One in Advent).

Ascension to Pentecost material will also be included in the next update.

I am not quite clear from your message whether the Times and Seasons material is all here but in odd places or if bits are going to be added as we go on, I suspect the later.  I for example am interested in the Agricultural year (Lammas Day approaching and all that).

I can confirm that the material from Advent to Easter is currently in Visual Liturgy Live with Ascension to Pentecost coming in the first update (release tomorrow). Currently the material can be found in the 'All services' folder but it is not easy to find. The update will re-arrange all of the Times and Seasons making it easier to find. The rest of the book including the Agricultural material will be forth-coming.

It will be great to have the seasonal material soon, especially the agricultural stuff for those of us in rural benefices. Many thanks. Stephen

Hi Jenny,

What ought to happen is that from the opening screen (with the "Create Service" tab on the left), you should be able to scroll down the folders until you come to "Times and Seasons", within which is a subfolder called "Easter". Once you click on that folder, you should see the relevant services. But, as I suspect you have already found out, the Easter services from T & S ain't there! I have "Ascension to Pentecost Seasonal Material", "The Liturgy of Ascension Day" and "The Liturgy of the Feast of Pentecost", but nothing else. No Easter services and no Easter Seasonal Material.

But further investigation has raised up some more anomalies. For example, the Lent subfolder within T & S doesn't have the "Way of the Cross" service as provided in T&S; the Passiontide subfolder doesn't have the "Seasonal Material" service template that we find in Lent (nor, for that matter, do the subfolders for Advent, Christmas or Epiphany.

I've also found that the individual Easter seasonal items (invitations to confession etc etc) don't seem to be there. Try searching for "In baptism we died with Christ" (A2) or the Act of Penitence (D1). If the individual items were previously included in New Patterns, then they can be found referenced to that book, but not to T&S.

In connection with this, can I make a plea for the T&S material to be more easily accessible? In theory, you should be able to access it all by browsing, using the appropriate theme. But if you try to select a theme, using the theme-type of "service-specific", you get an enormous drop down list to choose from. You then have to scroll down and hopefully choose the right theme. This is clumsy and I've found that even if you happen to choose the correct theme, not all the relevant material is indexed correctly.

Basically, you still need to have the T&S book in your hand in order to know what material is available and to help you find it in VL. And that indicates to me that something isn't quite right.

I've been reflecting on the "challenges" of finding the T&S (and NPfW) material in VL and I have come up with an idea which may make accessing the individual items easier.

Please feel free to knock this suggestion down if it is a non-starter....

(NB - I've been trying to think of low-cost ways to make access of the material easier - looking at how the system as it presently stands could do the job, rather than suggesting ways to spend more money on development!)

My suggestion seeks to make better use of themes and theme types. I think that these are potentially powerful aspects of the VL system, but which are presently not used to their full potential. At the moment there are four theme types (General, Church Year, Service Specific and Prayer During the Day). The Service Specific type is one way at the moment of accessing the various T&S and NPfW items, but the problem is that within this theme type there are masses of themes, with rather confusing titles. So what I want to suggest is this:

1. Create a new theme-type (Times & Seasons/New Patterns)
2. Within this theme type, create a short list of easily identifiable themes (Invitation to Confession, Kyrie Confession, Introductions to the Peace, etc etc)
3. Go through the T&S and NPfW items and link each of these to their appropriate new themes.

The end result will hopefully be that when browsing, you can browse by theme and select (for example) "Extended Prefaces" and then have a list of all T&S and NPfW extended prefaces, making it easier to select the one you want. With this solution, you don't need to open dummy service templates to access the seasonal material and you could have all of T&S and NPfW material easily accessible without the need to resort to the hard copy books.

So, is this a good idea or should I just drop it into the trashcan corner of my mind?
