VL looks as if tunes are playing but nothing can be heard.
I seem to remember this happened once before.

Sorry that you are having problems with the tunes.

A few things to check.

If you restart Windows and go straight into VL, does that help? Some music players can grab the audio which might stop tunes working in VL.

Are you able to play music elsewhere in Windows?

Is VL completely up-to-date?

Click the tunes icon in VL, search for Adeste Fideles. This is one of the tunes in the midi module update. Click play. The button should change its text to Stop, and after about 2 seconds the tune can be heard. If that does not work for you, can you tell me what behaviour you see?

Tim

Thank you for your prompt response.

I have shutdown and restarted, logged in and run VL.
Tunes on the menu bar.
Select tune dialogue box.
ades return.
ADESTE FIDELIS appears highlighted.
Click Play.
It turns into Stop for about 45 seconds.
Nothing can be heard.

I can hear music from iTunes, BBC radio channels via Firefox, Skype makes a noise when it connects.

I last listened to the tunes playing in March this year.

VL checks for updates every week.

Puzzling. My guess is one of two things:

Some other music player running at startup and blocking the audio

Something in the Windows sound mixer which is excluding midi from the default sound output

Which version of Windows?

Thank you. Two things needed changing. Quite why or how they got to be as they were, I have no idea.

Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Sounds and Audio Devices Properties,

Volume tab, Device volume, Advanced, Play Control, MIDI Synth volume was zero.

Audio tab, MIDI music playback, Default device was ... I do not remember ... but when set as now to
"SB Audigy 2ZS Synth A [C8C0]" tunes playback works again.

Windows XP SP3.

Thank you again.
